After Midnight

For the thoughts, stories, feelings, and worlds that seem to appear

when everyone else has gone to sleep.

After midnight is a different kind of place. It's quiet streets. Bedroom ceilings. Half-finished thoughts. Moonlight through windows. Conversations you replay in your head. Dreams you can't quite remember. Loneliness, longing, imagination, secrets, and the strange clarity that sometimes arrives when the world gets quiet.

Think:

  • Dark or moody photography

  • Nighttime landscapes

  • Moonlight and shadows

  • Bedroom still lifes

  • Handwritten diary entries

  • Letters written at 2 a.m.

  • Poetry about longing, loneliness, desire, or reflection

  • Dreamlike or surreal artwork

  • Night walks

  • City lights

  • Quiet moments

  • Things you only think about at night

  • Flash fiction set after dark

  • Stars, windows, candles, empty streets, bedrooms, silhouettes

  • The thoughts you would probably never say out loud during the day

We're looking for the quiet, the nocturnal, the intimate, and the slightly haunting.

Each issue of In The Margins explores a different little corner of the human experience. We're looking for work that doesn't simply fit the theme on paper we're looking for work that feels like it belongs there. Poetry, prose, photography, illustration, painting, collage, handwritten pieces, mixed media, crafts, photography, found objects, visual fragments, and experimental work are all welcome.
